WIT, in partnership with Emory University, has developed a specialized course just for women that offers a quick and affordable pathway to learning the fundamentals (the basics) of Information Technology. Whether you need a refresher course or are new to the world of IT, this course will teach you all that you need to know.

Information Technology Fundamentals introduces you to the essential technical and professional skills required for students to earn program certificates and pursue specialized programs leading to professional careers in Information Technology. This course is designed for individuals who are curious about IT and might have some interest in pursuing a career in the field but don’t know where and how to get started.  The course content includes hardware, software, programming, networking, database management, computer security, cloud computing, data science, application of IT in business, and computer careers.

At the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand basic concepts and terminologies of information technology
  • Have an understanding of computer hardware, software, and operating systems
  • Be familiar with computer networking, connectivity, data transmission, and network types
  • Have a general knowledge of the field of cybersecurity, cybercrimes, and general computer security measures
  • Have a fundamental understanding of data science, business intelligence, data analytics, and machine learning
  • Understand the principles of data collection, visualization, storage, and data storytelling.

  • Offered virtually by Emory on Saturdays 8:30 am until 5:30 pm EST
  • No previous experience or knowledge in information technology is needed
  • Students receive a certificate from Emory Continuing Education upon completing the program
