Supporting WIT…

Why did you start volunteering with WIT?

I started volunteering with WIT because I wanted to be involved and believed in their mission. I loved that they help multiple generations of girls and women in STEAM fields and want to create a positive impact in our community. One thing about me too, I do better at events or groups when I have a task or job, so volunteering with WIT gave me the job I needed at the events which then allowed me to have a more beneficial event. When you are working/volunteering events for WIT you meet more people and are forced to interact more than you would on your own, which I know is true for me.

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT?

I think when I meet people and they are new but eventually find their place in WIT, that is one of the most rewarding parts. I also love connecting people, so networking and being able to help others find people or jobs, whatever the case maybe I just love being able to make that connection adn help that person out. I love seeing all the good come from our programs too like the Girls and Single Mothers that WIT supports, it is amazing and that is why I am 100% behind WIT. It is such a friendly, warm group to be with and the team is always willing to lend a hand where they can.

What is your favorite program/event within WIT?

YoPros!! I am a little bias because that is my age bracket, but I absolutely love being part of the Young Professionals group within WIT. I think my favorite event outside of a program would the monthly forums at Maggiano’s. Those breakfast discussions are informative, interactive and I always leave feeling warm inside.

About our Volunteer…

What about you… What would you like to share that people may not know about you?

I would think that if people were to share something about me that others may not know, it is that I am actually quite an old school soul. I have grown up telling my family that I think I was born in the wrong generation sometimes. I love old music; you can’t beat the classics especially rock n roll. Another old soul trait about me is that I tend to do better meeting people organically and getting to know them in person than over the phone, and it takes time for me to build that bond with people. But the ones who take that time to open up and stick around to build that deep bond or friendship are the ones that I treasure most. I tend to be okay on my own, I love solitude like reading or exercising, and anything surface level or mundane is not my thing. LOL So yeah, I think most people would not know that on the inside I am an old soul who loves the old ways of life, ironic because I work in technology surrounded by today’s world.

What 3 traits define you? Kindness, Ambition/Passion, and Curiosity

What experience made you a stronger person? I would say a true turning point in my life came from High School, when I decided to leave my comfort zone and dual enroll. I always a shy person, never really stuck to a core group of friends growing so the fact that I would jump from high school and go straight into college before my peers was nerve racking for me. But it was just what I needed to start building my confidence and to make me into a stronger young woman. It wasn’t until after I succeeded in that experience and proved my peers wrong that I actually felt confident, felt strong and really believed in myself and what I could do. I knew from there it was only going to get better, it was a slow process through college to get here but I am so proud of the confident and strong woman I am today. I continue to push myself and put myself out there in new life experiences still today.
