Why did you start volunteering with WIT?

When I was the Director of Marketing for a technology company, I wanted to learn more about IT and the tech industry. I began volunteering with WIT because the programs were educational and I found the members to be extremely open and supportive of a newbie in the industry. 

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT?

I have enjoyed all the friendships I’ve made through volunteering with WIT over the years. I also feel like my I.Q. goes up about 50 points after each Technology Uncorked program. The women who attend are smart, savvy, and willing to share their knowledge and their challenges with their peers!

What is your favorite program/event within WIT?

I know I’m biased but I love Technology Uncorked!

What about you… What would you like to share that people may not know about you? 

While I LOVE meeting new people and attending lots of events, I also REALLY ENJOY my quiet time. I’ve realized that I’m not an Extrovert like some people may think I am, instead I’m an Ambivert.

What 3 traits define you? I love to make things fun, to bring people together, and to help others see the good they can experience from a difficult situation.

What experience has made you a stronger person? I had breast cancer almost 15 years ago and it changed me in some important ways. I was already a strong person but being weakened physically by cancer and chemo made me realize I had to be vulnerable and allow other people to help me. Women in general want to be the ones doing for others, so this was a hard, but important, lesson to learn. The other thing I learned was that I could take my power back from the cancer by keeping my focus on how I was going to use that negative experience to encourage others once I was on the other side of it. Now, whenever anyone I know is in a hard place, I encourage them to focus on the positive impact they will have when they can share their story of surviving a difficult situation to empower others. This turns hope into action!
