Supporting WIT…
Why did you start volunteering with WIT?
While attending my first event in the spring of 2022, I was immediately drawn to WIT because it offered something I had longed for in a professional community. Witnessing the diverse range of groups, from WIT Girls and WIT Campus to WIT YoPros, WIT Single Mothers, and WIT Executive Leadership, underscored the inclusive nature of this organization. What stood out to me the most was the genuine support and camaraderie among women at various stages in their careers. The sense of belonging and the safe space WIT provides for women to share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs is truly remarkable. I felt heard and seen in a way that transcends traditional professional networks.
I started volunteering with WIT because I believe in the organization’s mission to empower and support women in technology. My personal values align seamlessly with WIT’s commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and professional growth. Through my involvement, I aspire to contribute to the positive impact WIT has on the lives and careers of its members. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive landscape for women in the tech industry.
What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT?
The most fulfilling aspect of my volunteer work with WIT is my role on the YoPros committee. It’s a privilege to contribute to shaping the positive influence we have on the community. Our primary focus includes cultivating new friendships, fostering meaningful working relationships, providing professional guidance, and facilitating mentorship opportunities. Additionally, I actively participate in organizing WIT’s seasonal socials, which aim to build networks in a relaxed and inviting environment.
What is your favorite program/event within WIT?
Among the various programs and events within WIT, my most favorite is the WIT Women of the Year Awards Gala. There’s something truly special about putting on my finest attire and joining a gathering where women and men alike are celebrated for their outstanding achievements. The event not only provides an opportunity to indulge in delightful food and atmosphere, but also offers a chance to connect with both new and familiar faces. It’s a moment to reflect on the accomplishments of WIT throughout the year, creating a memorable and inspiring experience.
About our Volunteer of the month…
What about you…What would you like to share that people may not know?
I recently embarked on a new venture by establishing my own business, Georgia’s Finest Events. In this endeavor, I operate an event planning company where I oversee every facet of the business, from client management and social media to technology and finances. Taking this leap of faith has proven to be an incredibly positive experience and the best decision I’ve ever made for myself. I firmly believe in following one’s instincts and not delaying the pursuit of aspirations, regardless of age. There’s no better time than the present to pursue what you’ve always wanted to do.
What experience in your life made you a stronger person? Deciding to leave a situation that was clearly not right for me and starting over completely. This led me to growing stronger in my faith and start my business.
What is the best place you have traveled to? Puerto Rico
