Women in Technology (WIT) empowers and educates women and girls about opportunities in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math (STEAM) by delivering professional development and networking opportunities to women and free educational programs to students.
WIT is the largest, most active female-centered organization of its kind in Georgia. WIT helps women and girls break through barriers and advance with opportunities in STEAM from the classroom to the boardroom. WIT passionately supports, inspires and challenges women and girls to excel. WIT also plays a key role in the Georgia communities through partnerships and collaborations with organizations that further the WIT mission and reach. WIT supports initiatives that invest in the education and careers of girls and women inclusive of all demographics including under served communities.
WIT Connect
This event it one of Atlanta’s most engaging and interactive events for STEAM leaders! It is an evening of giving back. We have raised over $7.7 million to support the development of young girls and the advancement of women in STEAM through our highly anticipated Executive Auction.
WIT Connect is one of the premier fundraising and networking events of the year with over 700 top level executives and leaders in the technology field that come to further focus on the mission of WIT. In addition to our highly anticipated executive auction, it is also an evening where we focus on the mission of WIT. At this event, we highlight our WIT Girls, WIT Campus, and WIT Single Mothers along with the impact our WIT programs have had on their advancement in STEAM, which includes scholarship awards for our WIT Girls and WIT Campus students.
WIT Women of the Year in STEAM Awards Gala
The WIT Awards Gala brings together more than 900 technologists in attendance at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. WIT Awards celebrate women in STEAM who live in the state of Georgia for their accomplishments as leaders in business, visionaries, and women who make a difference in their communities.
Additionally, a special middle or high school girl is recognized as the Girl of The Year, a college with a WIT Campus Club is awarded our Campus Club of the Year, and a graduate from our Single Mothers Program is given our Single Mother of The Year Award.
WIT SCHOLARSHIPS: Each year WIT is honored to provide scholarships, sponsored by WIT Partners dedicated to advancing young women in STEAM, to graduating high school seniors entering college and young women already in college pursuing a STEAM major. Scholarships awarded to participants in WIT Girls and WIT Campus programs allow recipients to fulfill their dreams of a career in STEAM.
WIT FORUMS: Truly successful people never stop learning. WIT offers monthly breakfast events that feature a range of relevant and engaging topics delivered by individual speakers and panelists from leading companies and organizations. Thought leaders and professionals, both women and men, gather at these monthly forums to collaborate with peers and find out what women in STEAM are doing to influence trends and set standards of excellence. Key leaders from Georgia businesses lead interactive discussions on timely topics designed to provide professional women and men with tips and actionable skills they can apply directly to their career development.
WIT SOCIALS: These are evening networking events held every other month that provide a unique opportunity for individuals ranging from young professionals to C-suite executives to network and engage in a relaxed setting. WIT attracts over 200 women and men at these events. It is a great way to connect with other technology professionals.
WIT GIRLS: Where future innovators connect with today’s technology leaders.
The statistics are alarming according to the National Science Foundation. America lags behind other nations in the number of students majoring in science and engineering at colleges and universities. To improve the statistic, WIT Girls collaborates with the Georgia business community to support and inspire girls in middle and high school to break through barriers and advance opportunities in the STEAM field by providing them hands-on experience and educational workshops that ignite an early interest in careers in STEAM. Program Features: Career Exploration Workshops, Immersion Experience Events and a yearly Job Shadow Program. By collaborating with companies like The Coca-Cola Company, Fiserv, Cox Automotive, Georgia Pacific, State Farm, Truist,
WIT CAMPUS: Our mission is to provide college women opportunities to explore and experience careers in S.T.E.A.M fields.
We do this by building strong partnerships among students, colleges, and companies which allow us to provide relevant educational programs, internships, and scholarships possibilities for these college women.
With WIT Campus, college women enjoy dynamic opportunities to explore, engage in and experience the array of career options available following graduation. After all, there is life after calculus. Participants have the chance to network with executive women in technology, and be mentored in business leadership. They also benefit from WIT Campus programs and gain access to scholarship opportunities. All of the programming is designed to support female students as they move toward a successful future in STEAM. WIT Campus programs will address mentorship, personal brand development, job negotiations and developing leadership skills-all directed by senior executive women from some of the top companies in Georgia.
Program Features: WIT Campus & Girls Conference, WIT Bridge Mentoring Programs, Group Mentoring, and a yearly Job Shadow Program.
The following are the participating colleges:
WIT YoPros: Provides women ages 20-29 with professional guidance and mentorship as they transition from student to professional.
We do this by connecting young women with experienced professionals who provide guidance, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Participants gain leadership and technical skills in a supportive social environment. Through networking, personal and professional development and opportunities for volunteering, the WIT YoPros Program benefits all young women looking to reach their full potential. WIT empowers young professionals to find their path to success in their careers.
WIT Technology Uncorked: Designed to bring together women leaders who want to be surrounded by other exceptionally bright women leaders.
We are partnering with women leaders who are true visionaries, experienced in their fields to share their successes and failures, best practices and how they solved current technology challenges in a relaxed, open conversation. This is an exclusive opportunity for women leaders to be included in conversations about various technology topics. This is a safe place for technology conversations amongst leaders.
WIT CAREER ConneXions: WIT Career ConneXions is changing the trajectory for training and hiring women by partnering with right forward-thinking organizations to create learning and working environments where women thrive.
Traditional staffing methods are often ineffective for women, especially for women who are returning to the workforce, just graduating from college or otherwise lack experience.
Women that have left the workforce to take care of their families do not have traditional resumes or LinkedIn profiles, which can prevent them from landing an interview.
Job Boards are no longer effective. You have to know someone to get the interview.
Job descriptions are requiring a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a technology job, which eliminates those that have just graduated from college or those that do not have the hands-on experience.
Automated tools that companies use to screen applications are filtering out people that do not have experience required in the job description.
Whether you are a company looking for women technology talent (technologists) or you are a woman looking for a technology career, WIT Career ConneXions can make this happen for you.
WIT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: WIT’s organization is structured to involve as many volunteers as possible with varying degrees of responsibility. There are programmatic positions consisting of committee membership, event speaking, company hosting, and event registration, and any combination thereof. All are challenging, all are important, and all are necessary in order for WIT to function and effectively meet our mission. To be a volunteer, please go to https://mywit.org/get-involved/volunteers/
WIT is currently looking to fill the following Volunteer roles:
-WIT Forums
-WIT Awards
-WIT Career ConneXions
