WIT Volunteer Spotlight
Why did you start volunteering with WIT?
I’m passionate about making space for women in areas in the world that are usually dominated by men. STEM related jobs is one of them. Scuba Diving is another!
What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT?
These programs give women an opportunity to change their lives. Our single mothers’ program is proof of that. For the program I’m part of, it’s very rewarding to show women that we can in fact be part of technology jobs, and seeing the light bulb go on for women during the Careers fundamentals classes, is just one of the many rewarding moments of volunteering for WIT.
What is your favorite program / event within WIT?
We get to celebrate local women crushing it in their field!
What about you…What would you like to share that people may not know?
I’m still learning! As a leader in a technology based industry, I still take classes and learn new things regularly.
What experience in your life made you a stronger person?
Rejection; I’ve had my share in the professional world. It used to really hurt my feelings and upset me. Now, it drives me.
What is the best place you have traveled to?
India and Bonaire. India was life changing. Bonaire was incredible diving!
What is your favorite place to eat?
Aviva by Kameel – there’s just something about that man’s spirit. His food is amazing, but he greets every customer with love and kindness. And in my own kitchen. My husband makes the best red sauce!
Since 1992, Women in Technology (WIT) has been a formidable force-an engine of change and innovation-that helps women and girls break through barriers and advance opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). WIT works to empower and educate women and girls about opportunities in STEAM by educating middle and high school girls, and young women in college and by sharing the stories of successful professional women in STEAM.
