Supporting WIT…

Why did you start volunteering with WIT?

n

I really connect with WITu2019s mission, because I come from an education system that didnu2019t emphasize STEM or even higher education in general. While I am fortunate to be where I am, I think I would have done things a lot differently if I had been given the opportunity to explore these things before jumping into my education.

n

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT (Program you are volunteering foru2026 ex: WIT Girls, Campus, Careers, YoPros and Events (Forums, Socials, Signature Events)?

n

The women I collaborate with through WIT are absolutely the most inspiring and uplifting people in my life. In my industry, I am always the youngest person in the room, and usually the only woman. WIT is such a welcome change from that, because I have the opportunity to work with like-minded women who just want to support and celebrate each other.

n

What is your favorite program / event within WIT?

n

WIT Mentors will always hold a special place for me. It was the program that got me involved with WIT, and gave me the opportunity to grow as a volunteer and a leader. It almost feels selfish, because I think I benefited as much from the program as the girls do!

About our Volunteer…

What about youu2026What would you like to share that people may not know?

n

I have an undergraduate degree in biology, and even though I didnu2019t make a career out of it, Iu2019m still a big science nerd. I volunteer at the Chattahoochee Nature Center leading nature hikes, and at the beginning of this year, I hiked out in the rain to see a rare spider that made its way here all the way from Japan. I love to teach people about bugs and snakes and other creepy crawlies, because the more you know about something, the less scary it becomes.

What is the best place you have traveled to?

n

I studied wine in Italy for a summer in college, so I spent a weekend in Taormina, Sicily. We took a boat ride to the sea caves and took a swim in the Mediterranean, and it is still my favorite travel memory.

n

What is your favorite place to eat?

n

At my momu2019s kitchen table. Nothing beats a home-cooked meal with your family.
