Allie’s Advice and Inspiration:

“I would tell my younger self to embrace resilience and trust in my journey. I’d emphasize the importance of seeking outside support and mentorship, especially during challenging times. I’d remind myself that it’s okay to take risks and that every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. Most importantly, I’d encourage myself to believe in my unique voice and the impact I can make in the tech and STEAM fields.”

Can you share your career journey and what led you to your current role in the tech/STEAM field?

I asked my local mom community for advice on switching to a new career path, which led me to discover the Women in Technology (WIT) Single Mothers Program. This program inspired my shift from marketing and behavioral science to cybersecurity, where I now focus on educating families through Savvy Cyber Kids and empowering women in tech.

Can you share a moment or project you are particularly proud of in your career?

I’m particularly proud of writing my book, “Mothers Against Cyber Crime”. The insights gained while researching and sharing real-life cyber safety stories then inspired me to develop ‘The Hunter Method,’ an approach designed for companies and their employees. It combines storytelling with cybersecurity principles to create engaging and effective training experiences that resonate with everyday digital challenges.

How have you contributed to innovation or change in your organization or community?

I drove change by creating the ‘Hunter Method,’ an employee training approach that combines storytelling with cybersecurity principles to make learning more engaging for companies and their teams. My book, Mothers Against Cyber Crime, also raises awareness about cyber safety for families. Through my work, I continue to innovate by developing accessible programs that educate diverse audiences on digital safety.

How do you use your position to empower or mentor other women/girls in STEAM?

I use my position to empower women and girls in STEAM by sharing my journey, including my healing from abuse, the challenges of being a single mom, and managing several health issues. I strive to demonstrate that these obstacles don’t have to limit one’s career in tech. I focus on creating an inclusive environment where women feel supported and encouraged to pursue their passions, and I share resources that can help them navigate their own challenges.

How do you envision the future of women in technology, and what changes would you like to see?

I envision a future where women in technology not only have equal representation but also hold influential leadership positions across the industry. I’d like to see more companies adopt policies that foster diversity and inclusion, creating spaces where women feel confident expressing their unique perspectives and leading initiatives. It’s important that we can bring our authentic selves into the workplace without it being seen as unprofessional or incapable. I also hope to see increased investment in programs that provide mentorship and resources specifically for women and girls in STEAM, nurturing a robust pipeline of talent that drives innovation and progress in the tech field.

What does selection as a finalist for the WIT Awards mean to you, and how do you feel this recognition can inspire others?

Being selected as a finalist for the WIT Awards is an incredible honor that validates the hard work and passion I’ve dedicated to empowering women in technology. This recognition not only highlights my efforts but also underscores the importance of community support in fostering growth and innovation. I hope it inspires others to pursue their goals in STEAM, demonstrating that perseverance and commitment can lead to meaningful achievements. It’s a reminder that our stories and experiences can inspire change, encouraging more women to step into leadership roles and contribute their unique voices to the tech industry.
