LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WIT SINGLE MOTHERS’ PROGRAM

  • WIT SINGLE MOTHERS’ PROGRAM DEFINED:

    • 5-week IT Fundamentals prerequisite course for those who do not have previous IT training (this will be determined during your interview) on Saturdays 8:30 am until 5:30 pm EST
    • 12-week course/92 hours offered virtually by Emory (one of the most prestigious universities in the country) on Saturdays 8:30 am until 5:30 pm EST
    • You will learn the basics of IT in order to have a solid foundation of terms, technology, and principles that apply to all entry-level IT jobs
    • You will learn in-demand offensive and defensive Cybersecurity that nearly every large organization as well as the world’s top tech companies need to effectively secure and operate their businesses
    • Professional virtual workshops are offered/required throughout the semester preparing you to be workforce-ready when you graduate
    • Students receive a certificate from Emory Continuing Education upon completing the program
    • Once a certification is received, WIT will provide job placement support for the top 50% ranked students
    • No previous experience or knowledge in Cybersecurity required
    • Must have technology fundamentals knowledge, OR a strong passion for and interest in learning technology principles and pragmatic use of technology…
      • Don’t understand IT fundamentals? That is ok. Still apply as you could qualify for the WIT scholarship that will pay 100% of your tuition to attend the Emory IT Fundamentals class for free (5 weeks course)

    • Approximately 15 hours of homework per week in addition to classroom time and workshops

*No class July 6th for 4th of July Holiday

Cybersecurity: August 10th – November 2nd

*No class August 31st for Labor Day Holiday

*This does not include evening Professional Skills Workshops in addition to the full day Saturday

Additional Wrap Around Services Offered to our Single Mothers free of charge:

    • Free childcare & development services during Saturday classes through our partner Sheltering Arms. No more than 1 child, birth to age 6, will be able to participate for the duration of the course (12 weeks 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.)
      • Additional children and other ages will be considered on a case-by-case basis
      • Mothers will take the virtual Emory courses onsite at Sheltering Arms.  We have designed spaces created for you enabling you to break away during the approved class break times to see your children
    • Free transportation services on Saturdays to and from home and Sheltering Arms for those needing childcare through the duration of the program (12-17 weeks) (Must reside within Metro Atlanta)
    • Lunch vouchers for the purchase of lunch each Saturday will be provided at no charge through the duration of the program (12-17 weeks)
    • Laptop, monitor, keyboard and mouse will be provided so you have what you need at home for class.  Each student that successfully completes the course will be able to keep the provided equipment.
    • Professional Development & Career Planning Workshops
      • Find your purpose, Goal Setting, Personal Branding/Networking
      • Financial Literacy courses including personal budget management coaching
      • Personal Budget Management which includes budget management coaching
      • Time Management
      • Corporate Etiquette
    • Nutrition and overall health training
  • One-on-one mentorship with women technologist from the WIT Community
  • Resume writing and LinkedIn profile workshops
  • Small group coaching on how to create your resume and LinkedIn profile
  • Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Training
  • Interviewing skills training as well as mock interview practice to get you ready for that interview
  • Job placement services for top 50% ranked students
  • Workshops on how to prepare for your first day of work as well as many other workshops offered to help you prepare to get the job and keep the job
  • Membership in WIT, and upon completing the course, you will receive free admission to WIT’s breakfast educational events and evening socials for 2-years following completion of the program. This gives you the opportunity to network with other technology women in our community and continue to grow in your network and your brand
  • Outstanding participants have the opportunity to compete to be recognized as the WIT Single Mother of the Year at the annual WIT Awards gala. The Single Mother of the Year has one of the highest scores in her class, embodies the WIT mission and acts as an ambassador for the program. The winner receives a substantial monetary award to celebrate her achievement

Eligibility and Requirements

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be an adult single mother ages 18-43 (not married, divorced, widowed, adopted as a result of family tragedy)
  • Must live in the state of Georgia
  • Must be a US Citizen or legally authorized to work in the US (can provide proof of work permit, VISA, etc.)
  • 100% attendance is required. Only 1 class can be missed with proven extenuating circumstances
  • Must be making $36,000 or less per year
  • Have an understanding of IT Fundamentals or at a minimum a strong interest and desire to learn technology principles and concepts
  • Don’t understand IT fundamentals? That is ok. Still apply as you could qualify to attend the Emory IT Fundamentals class (5 weeks course)
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to work in a professional work environment post-graduation from the program
