Supporting WIT…

Why did you start volunteering with WIT?

I believe in WIT’s mission to help empower girls and women at every stage of their STEAM careers. I started volunteering with WIT Campus to help bridge the gap between college women transitioning into professional STEAM careers. Women and minorities are underrepresented in STEAM and I wanted to create traction to college women that would allow them to bring change and innovative thought processes into the workplace.

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT?

Seeing these young women in WIT Campus graduating and moving into STEAM roles and leadership positions, is the most rewarding for me because I know that the balance amongst our work community is increasing in a positive direction and making it a much more dynamic environment.

What is your favorite program / event within WIT?

My favorite program is WIT Campus because more college students are becoming involved, boundaries are being pushed and positive changes are taking place in these young women’s lives.

What about you…would you like to share that people may not know?

I had the opportunity to work in Cybersecurity for 2.5 yrs. while being the only minority in the company. My skill set and humbleness and willingness to learn set me apart from my peers to change the status quo in order to improve internal and external perceptions. The diversity of my experience provided benefits to the company by allowing me to serve in a leadership role while attracting more women to the cybersecurity field and empowering them to become successful in their careers.
