Supporting WIT…
Why did you start volunteering with WIT?
WIT is a program that I successfully was invited to apply to one of the community-based programs, the SMP. I started volunteering because I am originally from NJ and had moved to GA. Was accepted into the SMP at one of the lowest times in my life. Although I went through the program during the pandemic, my pandemic had been going on for the last couple of years. When I was accepted into the SMP, I learned so many additions to life. Not just as a WIT, or a Single Mother, but I learned to love me again. I learned to say hello to me again. I learned what peace and charity was. I learned how to enjoy life and not only learn but use my resources making me a better mama and person. I was so excited to attend the program every single time we had class. I was so excited to meet someone new during the vast workshops, exercises and programs affiliated with the program. That when it was time to volunteer, I said, I must give back by giving out what I was given in.
What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with WIT?
For the SMP, when I see the ladies faces when they find out, I too went through, know all about, and have experienced almost of what they are experiencing. For the WIT Girls, when I see the girls faces and say, here is my daughter, she is just like you. As far as the events-when I meet someone face to face, knowing there is a similarity in their heart just like me, that we feel the same way about WIT and its mission.
What is your favorite program / event within WIT?
I don’t mean to be BIAS, BUT of course it is the SMP, then the WIT GIRLS follow shortly after. – Then the event would be the Gala- It’s like that one day, is my very own Cinderella moment; that one day is a time to weep, a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.
