Our sponsors play a crucial role in creating immersive experiences for our WIT Girls. These experiences provide them with real-life exposure and a vision of what working in the STEAM industry is like. These experiences ignite their interest in STEAM and further their development in meaningful ways.

Since its launch in 2003, our WIT Girls program has been dedicated to empowering young women in technology. One of the highlights of our program is the annual week-long job shadowing experience geared explicitly toward rising 9th – 12th grade girls. During this week, a group of WIT Girls spends an entire week at one of the esteemed tech companies in Atlanta, delving into the daily workings of the STEAM industry and gaining invaluable insights and practical skills.

This year, Job Shadow Week commenced with an open house at State Farm. Here, participants were paired with one of the 6 esteemed sponsor companies, which graciously opened their doors to provide an exclusive inside look into various tech careers for the week.

Our girls had the opportunity to engage in a variety of immersive activities. One notable example was a significant session hosted by our title sponsor, State Farm, led by two of their Product Owners, Hannah Brock and Briana Banks. They taught the girls the importance of prioritization in large projects, ensuring that the development team focuses on the most critical tasks to deliver maximum value to users and stakeholders. Hannah and Briana acted as business partners, giving the girls time to ask questions about critical areas such as food, supplies, people, location, and activities. This exercise was designed to help the girls plan and execute an excellent WIT Girls job shadow ending ceremony. With guidance from the State Farm team, the girls presented incredibly creative ideas and learned to prioritize tasks to achieve their goals better.

In addition to State Farm’s session, the week was filled with other enriching experiences hosted by top tech companies, including EarthLink, Equifax, Greenlight, Secureworks, and The Weather Company. Each company provided unique and engaging opportunities for our WIT Girls to explore different facets of the STEAM fields.

These week-long job shadowing experiences are invaluable, helping to shape the future of these young women and inspiring them to pursue careers in STEAM. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and participating companies for their commitment to empowering the next generation of women in technology.

Thank you to all our sponsors and partners for making this program successful. We look forward to continuing our work together to inspire and develop future leaders in STEAM.

“My daughter is learning so much and absolutely loves it at that weather company! The best part was when she told me about panelists at the opening ceremony at State Farm and again at the weather company, talking about advocating for women in tech and equal pay; OMG—THIS IS WHAT WE WANT FOR OUR GIRLS! And she is thinking about applying to be a WIT Girl Ambassador!”
