A RESUME BOOSTER

Job shadowing isn’t just a fun learning experience—it’s a resume booster.

Participation in WIT Girls Job Shadow Week shows colleges and future employers that you’re:

  • Proactive and eager to learn
  • Exposed to real-world tech environments
  • Developing soft skills like communication, curiosity, and professionalism

How to list it on your resume:
Include it under a section like Job Shadowing, Volunteer Experience, or Professional Development. Be sure to include:

  • The company name
  • Dates you participated (e.g., April 2024)
  • What you observed or worked on
  • Any specific achievements, presentations, or projects

Example:
Job Shadowing Participant – Secureworks (April 2024)
Observed cybersecurity and IT operations. Participated in a group mind-mapping activity and created a closing week presentation. Developed understanding of career paths in cybersecurity.

Many students mention this experience in college essays and scholarship applications—it helps them stand out!

CURATED EXPERIENCES FROM OUR PARTNERS

Secureworks gave students a hands-on look at cybersecurity — including a hands on lock picking session. The girls learned how physical and digital security go hand-in-hand, and how to think like ethical hackers to stay one step ahead.

State Farm gave students the full product management experience — from brainstorming and ideation to pitching their final product concepts. Girls worked directly with State Farm professionals across departments to walk through each stage of the process. It wasn’t just a session — it was a real-world sprint that showed them how innovation happens inside a major tech company.

Greenlight taught the girls how data flows through a company—from collection to prediction. They discovered how Data Engineering brings information in and out, Analytic Engineering shapes raw data into models, Data Analytics finds key insights, and Data Science uses those insights to predict the future.

Equifax challenged the girls with a Ransomware Game, where they had to decide how to respond to a hacker who took control of Company X’s systems and demanded payment. Later, they toured Equifax’s $7.3 million Cyber Fusion Center, learning how the company monitors its security 24/7 to respond to threats.

    TESTIMONIALS

Nala Cox – 2024 Job Shadow Week with Secureworks

“My overall experience with Job Shadow Week was amazing! I loved the icebreaker at the opening event—it was a great way to meet everyone. Spending the week at Secureworks was really eye-opening, and I enjoyed learning about the different jobs available in the field. My favorite activities were working on the closing event presentation and creating a mind map—those were super engaging!

The closing event was a perfect way to wrap up the week. It was awesome seeing what other groups had been working on. I’d definitely recommend Job Shadow Week to my friends—it was a 5 out of 5 experience for me. I’d also love to get more involved with WIT Girls and would be excited to become a WIT Girls Ambassador.”

Ananya Mohan Kumar – 2024 Job Shadow Week with Equifax

“I absolutely loved the Job Shadow Week program! The opening event was especially great because it gave me a deeper understanding of the WIT Girls program as a whole, not just the job shadowing aspect. My week with Equifax was amazing, and I learned so much. I had no idea how many job opportunities they offer, and it was eye-opening to hear how many people working there didn’t initially think they’d end up in tech.

At first, I wasn’t sure about pursuing technology, since my interests were more aligned with the medical field and business. However, after learning that IT isn’t just about technology but also has a business side, I started considering it as a potential career path. The closing event was great, though the videos had some technical issues that made it hard to see everything.

Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend the program to my friends. I’m also excited about the possibility of starting a WIT Girls Club at my school!”

Camdyn Crawford – 2024 Job Shadow Week with The Weather Company

“I had a fantastic experience during Job Shadow Week! The icebreaker activities at the opening event helped me connect with others right away. Spending the week with The Weather Company was a great learning experience. The team was extremely nice, and I appreciated how helpful they were in answering all my questions.

My favorite part of the week was learning more about ChatGPT. It was fascinating, and I would love to dive deeper into it. The closing event was a nice way to wrap things up, although I felt that State Farm’s presentation took up most of the time. Still, it was great seeing everyone’s presentations.

I would definitely recommend Job Shadow to friends and I’m excited to participate again next year. Thank you for this amazing opportunity!”

Ashitha Puvvada – 2024 Job Shadow Week with EarthLink

“My experience during Job Shadow Week was absolutely amazing! The opening event was a great way to start, especially hearing from everyone and getting inspired by Zareenah. My week with EarthLink was eye-opening. I was introduced to various career opportunities in tech, especially NLP, which I didn’t know much about before. I even had the chance to code my own NLP program—such a hands-on learning experience!

The closing event was interesting, but there were some technical difficulties with videos not loading. I also feel that the time spent on presentations could have been shortened, allowing for more in-depth sessions with the host company. Nevertheless, I loved seeing what everyone else learned and shared.

I would absolutely recommend Job Shadow to my friends. It’s a fantastic opportunity, and I’m already looking forward to participating again next year!”

Anna Parthiban – 2023 Job Shadow Week with State Farm

“I rated the opening event a 5 because we got to hear a lot of different perspectives and no view or opinion was presented as superior or ‘correct.’

State Farm did a great job—we learned a lot about the cloud and different types of IT work. The activities were interactive and engaging; we all enjoyed them immensely.

Overall, I rated the week a 5. I would definitely recommend Job Shadow to friends.”

Asmita Das – 2023 Job Shadow Week with State Farm

“I rated the opening event a 5— all the panelists were wonderful!

Throughout the week with State Farm, I learned a lot about different computer science jobs and positions. It gave me a good idea of what I want to do in the future. All of the activities were fun and insightful, and the meeting durations were just right.

Overall, I rated Job Shadow Week a 5 and would definitely recommend it to friends!”

Andrianna Ortiz – 2023 Job Shadow Week with The Weather Company

“The opening event was so fun and very interactive—one of my most memorable moments during the WIT Girls Job Shadow Week. I especially enjoyed meeting the ambassadors from each company and hearing their stories. I loved the four corners game because I got to reconnect with old friends and make new ones who shared the same interests as me.

I really appreciated the time the team at The Weather Channel gave us. I learned that the Weather Channel is so much more than just people telling you the weather—there are opportunities for anyone who enjoys STEAM. The activities were fun and intriguing, and it was great bonding with my teammates while meeting others outside of my team.

The closing event was a highlight for me—I enjoyed seeing everyone’s projects, each presented in a unique and different way. No two were alike, and it was inspiring to hear about the experiences others had at different companies.

Overall, this was a spectacular, unforgettable experience, and I would absolutely recommend Job Shadow to friends.”

Tanya Nallani – 2023 Job Shadow Week with Equifax

“During Job Shadow Week, I learned about the responsibilities of different roles like Site Reliability Engineering, project management, and more. The activities really helped deepen my understanding, and the meeting durations were just right.

Amulya Kumar – 2023 Job Shadow Week with State Farm

“The opening event was such a great start to the week. I loved being able to network with students from across Georgia, and the icebreaker activity helped me connect with people I didn’t know. Sitting with the girls I’d be partnered with for the week also helped me feel more comfortable and excited about what was ahead.

Throughout the week, I especially enjoyed the diverse panels hosted by State Farm. It was eye-opening to learn that even if you specialize in one area, there are so many different roles you can pursue. The group activities were also a highlight—working through challenges with such creative teammates was both fun and inspiring.”

Nala Cox – 2023 Job Shadow Week with The Weather Company

“I really enjoyed the opening event, especially how each group sat at separate tables—that made it easy to connect with the girls I’d be working with all week. My time with The Weather Company was amazing! I learned so much about what they do and had the chance to speak with many people working in the field.

All of the activities were really fun, and the meeting times felt just right. I also loved the closing event—it was so cool hearing about what other groups experienced. This entire week was a 5 out of 5 for me, and I’d absolutely recommend Job Shadow Week to my friends!”
