Our Mission and History

Supporting women in tech since 1992

Three people stand indoors, facing each other and smiling while having a conversation. Two wear glasses and name badges; one is holding something in their hands. Light fills the room through windows with beige curtains.
Four women stand together, smiling, in front of a purple Women in Technology backdrop. They are dressed in business attire: pink blazer, gray jacket, black top, and green suit.
Two people smiling and laughing as they look at their phones together indoors. The man wears a gray polo shirt, and the woman wears an orange-striped blouse. Bright light comes through the windows behind them.

The mission at the heart of everything we do

Our mission is to expand the vibrant community we’ve built, connecting talented women to each other, to exciting career opportunities, and to the companies that need them to help shape the future.

Driven by a deep commitment to seeing women succeed

WIT was founded in 1992 as a volunteer-led movement created for and by women who were navigating the unique challenges of building careers in technology. It has since grown to a statewide, impact-driven organization supporting women and girls at all stages, from middle-school students to C-suite executives.

Throughout our history, WIT has evolved in response to the realities women face as they enter and advance in technology careers. At the same time, we’ve stayed rooted in our founding spirit: A vibrant, supportive community that helps women build the confidence, connections, and skills they need to shape the future of technology.

I was looking for a community that genuinely supports women as they grow - not just professionally, but confidently.

Nicole Rebolledo

I can truly say that WIT has helped shape my career.

Falcon Wilson

The most wonderful connections I’ve made! Being part of a group of driven women has helped me to believe in myself more, being capable to accomplish big things. I’ve even made a close friend here!

WIT Early Career Mentorship Program Participant

This is a safe space for women in the tech world and offers great advice and support.

WIT Forum Participant

WIT has fundamentally changed the lives of women, their families, the companies who employed WIT program graduates, and the Atlanta community. WIT is a game-changer, and I am so proud to support its programs through company sponsorship, ongoing engagement, and as a mentor.

Building relationships with like-minded individuals creates a sense of belonging and community. Experiencing the satisfaction of making a positive difference in others lives are my biggest rewards.
